Cinder Edna

A new musical based on the book by Ellen Jackson

Book by Ted Ryle

Music and Lyrics by Ted Ryle, Miriam Sterlin, and Mandy Ryle.

Cinder Edna happens to live next door to the famous girl you have probably of: Cinderella. Cinderella and Cinder Edna, who both live with cruel stepmothers and stepsisters, have different approaches to life. Cinder Edna has better things to do than sit in the ashes and feel sorry for herself. Also, she doesn’t believe in Fairy Godmothers, so she saves her money to put a dress on layaway, just in case a special occasion should arise. She takes the bus to the ball AND she wears comfortable shoes. Although each ‘Cinder’ ends up with the prince of her dreams, one is a great deal happier than the other.

This new musical version of Ellen Jackson’s celebration of the classic fairy tale, tuna casserole, and making your own luck was a sold-out success in its first production in Olympia, Washington, and a darling of the critics:

“What a feat! What a coup!…See it now while you can. You’ll love it.” – Alec Clayton, South Sound Arts

“I loved Cinder Edna’s collegiate vocabulary, which never confused young audience members. I enjoyed this show so deeply…I hope it breaks out nationwide.” – Christian Carvajal, The Weekly Volcano/NW Military.com

Subsequent to the original production, book writer Ted Ryle created a shorter, one act version of Cinder Edna, suitable for school performances and touring companies.
